A member of our recruitment team will provide more details.Job SummaryThe SQL Server Database Senior Developer is responsible for the performance, optimization, and ongoing support of enterprise database systems within the Global Corporate and Investment Banking Technology (GCIB) organization. This role requires deep expertise in SQL Server, database performance tuning, code review and query optimization, along with strong collaboration with application teams and business partners.This is a hands-on technical role focused on ensuring high-performing, scalable, and reliable SQL database as backend of Applications supporting the GCIB Division of MUFG bank. The successful candidate will have strong experience with SQL Server, execution plan analysis and large-scale data environments, and will help drive performance improvements across critical platforms.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the performance tuning and optimization of SQL Server databasesServe as a senior technical contributor, resolving code bottlenecks, slow queries, blocking, and deadlocksOptimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and batch processing jobsAnalyze and tune execution plans to improve database efficiency and scalabilityDesign and implement indexing strategies (clustered, non-clustered, partitioning)Monitor database performance using SQL Server tools such as SQL ProfilerIdentify and resolve I/O, memory, and CPU bottlenecks in production environmentsCollaborate with application development teams to ensure efficient database access patternsWork closely with business partners to gather, analyze, and document data and performance requirementsAct as a liaison between database, application teams, and infrastructure groupsCoordinate testing and implementation of database changes in accordance with bank policies and standardsOrganize and manage technical workstreams, communicating status, risks, and dependencies using tools such as JIRA and ConfluenceCollaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, and Quality Engineering teamsProvide guidance and oversight to junior developers or database team membersParticipate in production support, including availability for critical issue resolutionRequired Qualifications7+ years of hands-on experience with SQL Server database development and performance tuningDeep expertise in:Query optimizationExecution plan analysisIndex design and tuningStored procedure optimizationStrong experience troubleshooting database performance issues in production environmentsStrong knowledge of SQL Server internals, including:Locking and blockingDeadlocksTempDB usageIndexing strategiesExperience working with large datasets and high-throughput batch processing systemsFamiliarity with at least one programming language (e.g., C#,.NET, Java, Python) for integration purposesStrong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsHighly organized, detail-oriented, and dependablePreferred Skills & ExperienceBackground supporting Loan systems, Corporate Investment Banking and Capital Markets platformsExperience working in Agile development environmentsUnderstanding of enterprise architecture, production support, and financial services security controlsPrior experience mentoring or guiding junior team membersEducation:•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely-related discipline, or an equivalent combination of formal education and experienceVisa sponsorship/support is based on business needs.

This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonuses and/or incentive compensation.
