Banner Baywood Medical Center is a 342‑bed acute care hospital located in the East Valley of Phoenix, Arizona. The facility offers emergency, orthopedic, neurological, and rehabilitation services to a diverse patient population.
Position Summary
This Speech Pathologist will provide screening, evaluation, and rehabilitation services for patients with speech and language disorders related to speech, language, cognitive‑communication, voice, swallowing, and fluency. The role spans all hospital areas, including Med‑Surg, Orthopedics, Neurology, ICU/CCU, CVICU, PCU, ED, and Observation.
Shift Details
Four 10‑hour shifts per week with a weekend requirement. Weekend shifts include a flat differential of $3 per hour.
Core Functions
- Evaluate patients’ functional abilities and limitations to determine appropriate intervention and develop a plan of care and treatment goals as ordered by physician or other referral source.
- Implement individualized treatment plans that consider patients’ physical, social, spiritual, cultural, educational, and age‑specific needs; re‑evaluate plans as needed to maximize patient benefit.
- Educate patients, families, and other care providers to promote participation and attainment of therapeutic program goals; provide individualized home programs with clear instructions.
- Document patient treatment according to professional and regulatory standards.
- Participate in training of other staff and students.
- Follow plan of care within established procedures and scope of practice, make independent judgments based on specialized knowledge, and confer with supervisor on unusual situations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Speech‑Language Pathology from an accredited university program.
- Current licensure in the state of practice.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence or documented acceptance in a Clinical Fellowship Year.
- BLS certification required.
- Strong interpersonal communication and human relation skills; ability to collaborate with physicians and other health‑care providers.
- Proficiency in computer software commonly used in an automated patient‑care environment.
- Employees hired for Banner Baywood Medical Center must possess and maintain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
