Position Summary

As a Speech Pathologist, your empathy, compassion, and exceptional evaluation abilities lead to rehabilitative treatment programs that restore or improve patients’ optimal level of function, independence, and quality of life. The role focuses on the improvement of language, communication, swallowing, and fluency, addressing common symptoms such as dysphagia caused by stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, or injury healing.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluation & Planning – Perform a complete initial evaluation of referred patients; develop and implement treatment plans with short- and long-term goals; involve the patient, family, and staff; re‑evaluate functional status and advance patients toward maximal performance and independence.
  • Documentation – Maintain thorough documentation of patient evaluations, treatment, progress, and discharge status; send required information to appropriate professionals.
  • Collaboration – Actively participate in rehabilitation team efforts to meet patient needs, including counseling and teaching patients and families, discussing treatment changes with MDs, coordinating health‑care plans, and assisting in discharge planning.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Speech‑Language Pathology or Communication Disorders (MA, MS, Med).
  • New York State licensure, or for recent graduates: completion of at least 9 months of a supervised clinical fellowship year or eligibility to participate in such a fellowship with a NYS‑licensed Speech‑Language Pathologist with a NYS Limited permit, followed by the NYS licensure examination and achievement of a NYS license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience with the frail elderly population.
  • Compassionate, warm, and patient‑focused.
  • Excellent organization and planning skills.

Physical Requirements

Medium work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; requires frequent walking, standing or squatting. Any physical requirements reported by a prospective employee and/or employee’s physician or delegate will be considered for accommodations.
