- Provide direct speech/language pathology services to referred patients of all ages
- Plan individualized, age-appropriate treatment programs based on referrals, evaluations, patient/family goals, clinical judgment, and pertinent information
- Maintain a productive schedule averaging 6.0 of 8.0 hours per day in direct clinical care
- Inform the manager of schedule openings and cancellations
- Administer daily treatment and adjust treatment plans to changing patient needs
- Complete competency assessments related to patient care
- Provide special services such as video swallow studies
- Communicate with physicians, team members, professionals, families, and caregivers to support optimum patient care
- Establish rapport with patients and provide education to patients and families
- Select and instruct patients on appropriate assistive devices
- Determine readiness for discharge and plan discharge, including home treatment plans or continued services
- Administer and interpret initial assessments of communication, cognition, swallowing, articulation, fluency, and voice functions
- Select assessment procedures for patients' abilities and limitations
- Complete documentation according to departmental policy
- Perform charge entry, maintain a clean work environment, and participate in committees and program development
- May supervise speech pathology students and interns after obtaining Certificate of Clinical Competence
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology (required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Successfully complete all competency assessments related to patient care
- Certificate of Clinical Competence required before supervising speech pathology students and interns
- Ability to provide speech/language pathology services to infants, children, adolescents, and adults depending on assignment
- Ability to perform video swallow studies and swallowing assessments
- Ability to assess verbal expression, non-verbal communication, auditory comprehension, written expression, reading comprehension, cognition, swallowing, articulation, fluency, and voice
- Ability to select and use appropriate evaluation procedures, treatment programs, and assistive devices
