As   a   PRN  Speech Language Pathologist ,   you will  evaluate, plan, and administer medically prescribed physical therapy treatments to patients. Supervises Techs, volunteers, and students. Participates in patient/family,  hospital,   and community education.

Primary Duties:  

  • Performs initial evaluations and sets up treatment programs for patients of all ages  in accordance with   physician orders and standard therapeutic procedures  for   both inpatient and  outpatient.   Identifies   functional problems that require intervention based on assessment of the patient’s status. Establishes interventions within practice / licensing   standards. Establishes specific outcomes that are consistent with identified problems, address functional  needs   and are measurable. Incorporates Patient and Caregiver goals into the plan of care. Modifies and progresses treatment program. Coordinates patient care needs with other services including  PT (Physical Therap y ) ,  OT  (Occupational Therapy) , nursing staff, discharge  planning   and physicians. Observes and documents patient activities in the medical record in  a t imely ,  a cc urate   an d concise manner in  accord   with department, JCAHO, Medicare and other regulating insurance or licensing standards.  Ide ntifies   ne ed   for and  ass ists   in   procurement of equipment to  opt imize   pa tient function. Notifies physician /  nursing staff of any changes in  patient’s   status .  
  • Provides   teaching and instruction to patients, family  members   and staff. Instructs patients and caregivers in treatment programs, precautions and equipment  use .   Documents   patient/ caregiver instruction  provided   Participates in the orientation of  new staff   members and volunteers as needed. Serves as a clinical instructor for students   
  • Maintains current knowledge, certification, and licensure.  Identifies   learning needs in self and initiates actions to address these education needs. Attends continuing education programs  to   maintain   certification   Attends   hospital sponsored training programs as required by the department. Completes all mandatory requirements, certifications, and licensure within allotted  time   for completion ( CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation) , License, PPD, Competencies, Age Specifics, etc.)   
  • Works effectively within and between departments. Participates on inter-departmental teams and committees, communicating unit knowledge as  appropriate Participates   in interdisciplinary rounds as assigned Provides department/unit with information and knowledge  acquired   during participation with interdepartmental teams and committees. Demonstrates a constructive approach during all interactions with staff, supervisors, and managers both inside and outside the unit.   
  • Provides   in-services to staff after attending continuing education.  Provides   education to physicians and support staff  regarding   Speech Therapy scope of practice.  

Qualifications:   

  • Maste r’s degree in Speech Therapy.   
  • Basic Life Support ( BLS).       
  • 1-2 years‘ experience preferred.  
  • Licensed   Speech Therapist in  Washington, D.C .  
This position has a hiring range of : USD $60.00 - USD $60.00 /Hr.
