Job Description

Assists student in improving their communication disorders to allow them to be more successful in academic and social situations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in district early childhood screening programs to identify exceptional children at an early age.
  • Participate in school-wide hearing screenings.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of speech and/or language needs of students referred and provide written summary reports.
  • Conduct and participate in multi-disciplinary meetings following evaluations.
  • Conduct and/or participate in IEP meetings and assist in writing IEP’s (Individual Education Plan).
  • Prepare a schedule and provide appropriate therapy for each pupil to accomplish the IEP goals and objectives.
  • Serve as a consultant/resource person for speech/language concerns to the classroom teachers.
  • Maintain open communication with parents and teachers through meetings, letters, and telephone calls.
  • Participate in parent/teacher conferences when possible.
  • Distribute quarterly progress reports to parents.
  • Supervise assigned paraeducators.
  • Attend workshops, conferences and classes to increase professional knowledge and expertise.
  • Maintain files of current information on students and levels of progress utilizing approved district or state forms.
  • Coordinate communication disorders evaluations with other agencies if needed.
  • Provide data required for participation in the Medicaid in Public Schools (MIPS) program.
  • Follow district policies and procedures as adopted by the Governing Board.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Designated Administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Appropriate Arizona Speech/Language Pathology Certification.
  2. Knowledge and skill in using current speech/language pathology techniques.

SCOPE AND SALARY

205 day contracted position, salary established on education and experience, with holidays and benefits according to district policy for certificated personnel.

EVALUATION

To be conducted by district Qualified Evaluator.
