Job Title: Speech/Language Pathologist Assistant
Classification: Full-time, 1.0 FTE
Grade Level: Elementary (grades 1-6) / Adolescent (7-12)

Reports To: Special Education System Coordinator
Start Date: School Year , Starting in August 2026
The position is to work collaboratively within the Special Education Department and greater GRS community to support student development. This is an opportunity to serve a community of students and families and to complement and support the mission of the school. The role of the Speech / Language Pathologist Assistant provides educational speech / language services as delegated by a licensed Speech Language Pathologist.
Areas of Responsibility and Concomitant Tasks:
1. General Responsibilities:
- Assist with speech language and hearing screenings: Implement documented treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising speech language pathologist
- Document student performance
- Assist with assessments of students
- Assist with preparing materials and scheduling activities as directed
- Perform checks and maintenance of equipment
- Collect data for quality improvements
- Consider ethical and cultural issues and maintain appropriate boundaries when interacting with students and colleagues
- Other duties as assigned
2. General Knowledge, Ability and Skills Required:
- Communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form
- Read and interpret documents, such as outside evaluations and reports
- Make decisions regarding eligibility for and dismissal from special education services
- Apply knowledge of speech / language therapy to students in an educational setting, to effectively and efficiently meet their individual needs
- Function independently as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- Provide consultation services to Guides and parents to effectively serve students in need of educationally based speech / language therapy
- Use typical office productivity software and applications (Word, Excel, Google, Sped Forms, etc.)
Qualifications
Qualifications: Have either:
- An associate degree from a speech-language pathology assistant program that is accredited by the High Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges or its equivalent as approved by the commissioner; or
- A bachelor’s degree in the discipline of communication sciences or disorders with additional transcript credit in the area of instruction in assistant-level service delivery practices and completion of at least 100 hours of supervised field work experience as a speech-language pathology assistant student
- Demonstrated knowledge of current best practices in the area of Speech / Language Pathology
- Demonstrated effective communication skills and an ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
- Have excellent time management skills, flexibility, and ability to work independently and problem solve situations
- Interest in and ability to relate well to both elementary and adolescent students
- Deep understanding of the goals of the school as a public Montessori program.
- Willingness to attend Montessori training and workshops in order to integrate understanding in serving students in a Public Montessori program
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Four years working as a Speech / Language Pathologist Assistant in a school setting (both elementary and adolescent)
- Experience working in and knowledge of Montessori educational philosophy.
