Speech-Language Pathologist

Position Summary

The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

We are seeking a Speech Language Pathologist to be part of an interdisciplinary team providing developmental and diagnostic evaluations for children, adolescents, and young adults. The role requires experience in the evaluation and treatment of autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities, familiarity with state systems of care. Effective oral and written communications skills are required to share evaluation findings and recommendations with families and other providers. The position requires knowledge and experience with standard evaluation methods as well as informal assessment of language, speech, and social communication. The position also offers opportunities for clinical instruction, supervision, training and consultation. Some in‑state travel is required.

Conditions of Employment

  • May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable.
  • Must maintain certification status.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University’s influenza vaccination requirement.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Speech Pathology or an equivalent discipline; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure: Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech‑Language Pathology; State of New Mexico Licensure as a Speech‑Language Pathologist.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience conducting speech‑language evaluations for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.
  • Experience functioning on an interdisciplinary team to provide differential diagnoses and/or intervention for children, youth, or adults.
  • Knowledge of evidence‑based interventions for autism spectrum disorder and other communication disorders, including parent‑mediated and naturalistic interventions that increase functional and social communication.
  • Bilingual – oral and written Spanish/English skills in a clinical or educational setting.
