Mission
The mission of the Special Education (SPED) Aide is to ensure that all scholars, regardless of their learning, behavioral, or developmental needs, have equitable access to a high-quality education and the support necessary to thrive. In partnership with teachers and support staff, the SPED Aide provides individualized and small-group academic and behavioral support that promotes scholar growth, independence, confidence, and achievement. Through consistent care, high expectations, and a commitment to inclusion, the SPED Aide helps cultivate a joyful, rigorous, and respectful learning environment that reflects Beta Academy's mission and standards of excellence.

- Collaborate with classroom teachers to create a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere.
- Provide individualized and/or small group support to scholars, meeting their unique academic, emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Encourage scholars to achieve their highest potential through rigorous and engaging learning.
- Implement Beta Academy's instructional standards of Joyful Rigor and High Expectations.
- Provide support across all school settings, including, but not limited to the classroom, enrichment, lunch, recess, and transitions.
- Provide small-group tutorials to approximately 6 scholars, ensuring they achieve grade-level academic goals as assigned.
Compliance & Documentation
- Track and log scholar progress accurately, ensuring completion of weekly service logs.
- Meet compliance targets, ensuring 100% of Special Pops scholars are serviced and service logs are submitted as required.
Behavioral & Classroom Management
- Model and reinforce Beta Academy's character standards and uphold a zero-tolerance approach to bullying and disrespect.
- Support teachers with monitoring scholar work and classroom environment, ensuring scholars exhibit neatness, thoroughness, and mastery in their work.
- Supervise scholars with focused attention during all school activities, maintaining school rules and procedures.
- Use Beta Academy-provided technology and software effectively to enhance learning outcomes.
- Support scholars in learning and utilizing school technology resources.
- Maintain professionalism at all times, using positive and constructive communication with scholars, staff, and parents.
- Participate in school meetings and required training, demonstrating flexibility and a collaborative spirit.
- Communicate regularly with homeroom teachers about scholar progress and attend relevant staffing and ARD meetings.
- Certified Educational Aide, or
- High school diploma plus 48 hours of higher-education coursework, or
- Associate Degree
AND
- Passing score on an approved examination of core academic ability.
- One year of experience in an educational setting, ideally in special education.
- Experience with instructional support and student management is beneficial.
