Specimen ProcessorThe Specimen Processor is responsible for all incoming specimens and requisitions being handled and delegated to the appropriate department for testing.Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:Must have phlebotomy experienceBe alert and aware always to ensure safety, accuracy, and efficiency.Proper identification of samples by two (2) identifiersEnsure all specimens have been collected for tests that were orderedRecord samples received at the bottom of requisitionAccess specimen integrityAble to follow specimen rejection procedureProperly aliquots specimens for send outsKnowledgeable of specimen storage requirementsFamiliar with all ADL storage areas and able to retrieve specimens for add-onsFollow universal precautionsCopies requisitions per ADL procedure when requiredFollows chain of custody protocolAble to communicate any issues with supervisor/manager when identifiedEnter entire requisition into LIS software (paying special attention to handwritten directions)Scan requisitions in Autoclip for documentation controlWhen necessary collect specimens from patients for use by clinicians and/or medical technologists for clinical analyses, evaluations, and/or diagnostic proceduresCheck-in all couriers and phlebotomist ensuring they sign-in in the proper logsProperly disposes of specimensEntering insurance data into the lab softwareThe ability to check insurance eligibilityRequired Education and Experience:High School DiplomaIntermediate experience with Lab SoftwareStrong attention to detailMust be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks with varying levels of difficulty.A problem solver with the ability to interact with others.Excellent listening skills and the ability to use good judgment.Has strong work ethicsDependable and has ability to produce quality work.
