Specimen Processing Group Lead – Tucker, GA – Monday to Friday, 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM

Pay range: $20.35+ per hour; employee may be eligible to receive a shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift. Additional details on shift differential will be provided if an offer is extended.

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency and understanding of all job duties in the Specimen Processing department.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem resolution skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical departments to resolve issues.
  • Assist all SPTs in proper test selection and problem resolution.
  • Answer and clarify employee questions regarding processing.
  • Provide appropriate feedback to supervisors when problems arise.
  • Complete shift paperwork, set up for production, and ensure staff cleans up at the end of the shift.
  • Monitor supply inventory, ordering supplies as needed.
  • Repair and maintain department equipment, notifying appropriate personnel when repairs beyond the general scope are required.
  • Assist in or perform training, cross‑training and department auditing functions as assigned by supervisors.
  • Perform all other job duties as assigned.
  • Assist supervisors in prioritizing work assignments.
  • Monitor production and activity of all SPTs to meet departmental deadlines.
  • Coach for improved performance by providing constructive feedback and maintaining a positive work environment.
  • Ensure effective employee utilization through workforce planning, including staffing weekends and holidays.
  • Make suggestions and recommendations to enhance workflow.
  • Help manage department overtime.
  • Ensure all Quest Diagnostics Incorporated and Specimen Processing policies and procedures are adhered to.

Qualifications

Required Work Experience
Internal candidates with a minimum of one year in an SPT III or related role.

Preferred Work Experience

  • 3 years experience in a laboratory environment with specimen processing experience.
  • Medical background preferred, including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Perform multiple tasks simultaneously and with interruptions, handling physical and mental stress.
  • Work in a biohazard environment and practice good safety habits.
  • Be able to sit or stand for long periods.

Skills

  • PC skills, including the ability to run reports and manage workflow; real‑time throughput.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times; access to overall employee performance and knowledge of disciplinary actions up to, and including termination.
  • Demonstrate leadership by example, exhibiting good attendance, good decision‑making, and keeping the team on task.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • Drive frequent employee interaction on the floor, providing feedback, coaching, and guidance.

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Preferred).
