Role Overview

As a member of TMHCC Specialty Group’s Crisis Management division, you will review insurance applications to evaluate, classify, and rate each risk to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing. You will establish and maintain agency and/or broker relationships with defined underwriting authority and business development responsibility for the Kidnap & Ransom book of business.

  • First 30 days: Learn how to evaluate the unique risks of kidnap and ransom by reviewing submissions and asking questions.
  • First 90 days: Classify and assess risks, determine acceptability, assign ratings, indicate endorsements and limits, and set appropriate pricing.
  • First 6 months: Cultivate relationships with brokers, respond to inquiries within designated timeframes, and use industry knowledge to assist the underwriting process.
  • Beyond 6 months: Apply critical thinking to find creative solutions to write business and satisfy both client and risk-taker.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate new and renewal policy applications, classify and assess each risk, and determine pricing.
  • Manage a high volume of broker submissions with structured work plans to meet predefined turnaround-time goals.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for brokers and build collaborative market relationships.
  • Articulate underwriting decisions, pricing rationale, and policy terms clearly and persuasively to brokers and management.
  • Gather market intelligence and broker feedback to identify new business opportunities and improve service delivery.
  • Communicate production activities, risk appetite, and business results with management and cross‑functional teams.
  • Maintain documentation, including bound files, underwriting worksheets, and records of phone conversations, per departmental guidelines.
  • Adhere to company underwriting authority directives, guidelines, and policies.
  • Serve as a resource to departmental staff regarding underwriting procedures and guidelines.

Travel Expectations

Up to 30% travel may be required.

What You Bring

  • Minimum of three years of relevant and progressive specialty underwriting experience.
  • Kidnap & Ransom and/or Political Violence underwriting experience is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, risk management & insurance, economics, or a related field, or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Accurate data entry skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Pay Transparency

Pay range: $56,600 - $125,000, including geographic adjustments.
