Responsibilities
The Commercial Billing Specialist is responsible for managing and resolving commercial insurance claims throughout the revenue cycle process to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement. This role works directly within the clearinghouse and billing systems to identify, research, correct, and follow up on rejected and denied claims. The Commercial Billing Specialist monitors outstanding accounts receivable, submits technical appeals, identifies root causes of denials, and collaborates with internal teams to improve claim acceptance and payment outcomes.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Reviews and resolves rejected claims within the clearinghouse and practice management system.

Monitors outstanding commercial insurance claims to ensure timely claim submission and reimbursement.

Performs routine follow-up on unpaid and underpaid claims on a monthly basis or as required until resolution is achieved.

Researches denied claims, determines root causes, and implements corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.

Prepares and submits technical and timely filing of appeals for denied or rejected claims.

Corrects claim errors related to demographics, authorization, eligibility, modifiers, or payer-specific requirements.

Escalates recurring payer or process issues to leadership.

Meets productivity, quality, and accounts receivable performance goals.

Works collaboratively with coding, verification, authorization, and clinical teams to resolve billing issues and improve clean claim rates.

Communicates with insurance carriers regarding claim status, payment discrepancies, denials, and appeals.

Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

One year of experience in an administrative healthcare setting is required.

One year of experience in claims or billing is preferred
Posted Salary Range
USD $20.00 - USD $20.00 /Hr.
