Special Education Teacher

The Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality, specialized instruction in a therapeutic environment. This role requires a collaborative approach to addressing the complex academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students. The Teacher ensures alignment with Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) and the broader mission of keeping students integrated within their communities. The Teacher will follow and implement all aspects of special education programming, including IEP goals and objectives. Quality instruction will be developed that is aligned to student needs and addresses goals stated on the IEP. Differentiated instructional strategies will be utilized to address diverse academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Assigned IEPs will be reviewed and revised annually, with adherence to each student's goals ensured. Ongoing assessments will be maintained, providing up-to-date data, progress reports, and report cards for every student. A social and emotional climate conducive to effective instruction will be maintained. Support for the development of students' physical, intellectual, social, emotional, and behavioral needs will be provided. Sound judgment will be exercised when navigating student behaviors and complex problem-solving situations. A safe, positive, and affirming teaching and learning environment that promotes student confidence and independence will be fostered. Professional rapport with students, staff, administration, parents, and community stakeholders will be built and maintained. Active participation in meetings with support staff to discuss program needs and monitor student progress will occur. Participation in professional development activities designed to improve instruction and promote student success will be expected. Ethical and professional standards of conduct will be practiced on an ongoing basis. Effective collaboration with paraprofessional staff, guiding them in classroom activities and goal documentation will be required. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Principal. Experience working with students with Autism and other significant disabilities is preferred. License: Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with special education endorsement (LBS1) Certifications: Not specified Must-Have: Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
