Shape the academic journey of middle school students as a Special Education Teacher supporting both resource and co-taught classes for 8th graders. This rewarding contract position is based across two closely located middle schools-just a five-minute drive apart-offering a dynamic environment and meaningful impact on students' educational experiences.
In this role, you will deliver targeted instruction to small groups of approximately 8-10 students in resource settings, while collaborating with general education teachers in co-taught classes. You'll work within a supportive team, yet your ability to operate independently and your expertise in resource supports will allow you to thrive and help students succeed.
Qualifications:

  • State certification as a Special Education Teacher (LBSI endorsement required)
  • Experience with middle school-age students, preferably in resource and co-taught models
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to adapt lesson plans and instructional strategies to diverse learning needs
  • Comfort working independently and managing multiple responsibilities across two campuses
Responsibilities:
  • Provide resource and co-taught special education services for 8th grade students
  • Collaborate with fellow educators to modify curriculum and assessments
  • Track student progress and maintain accurate records
  • Engage with parents, staff, and support teams to ensure student success
  • Attend district orientation (August 5-11) if onboarded before the school year begins
Schedule:
  • Contract dates: August 17, 2026 - May 28, 2027 (pending emergency days)
  • Weekly hours: 35, plus a daily 30-minute lunch
  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 7:20am-2:50pm; Wednesday: 7:20am-3:05pm
  • Work shared between two nearby middle schools in Vernon Hills
