Special Education Paraprofessional

The Special Education Paraprofessional, through evidence-based educational strategies, will assist special education teachers in providing support services for students in special education, as directed in their IEP. Responsibilities include assisting the teacher in working with students individually or in small groups to reinforce academic and/or behavior skills as directed by the teacher and related staff members. Perform duties as determined by the team, which can include daily living skills, toileting, personal hygiene, diapering, feeding, mobility, behavioral interventions, and schedule implementation. Uses effective basic strategies for management of behavior as well as crisis intervention strategies for prevention and intervention. Provides collaborative support in the classroom assisting teachers with the needs of their students with IEPs. Participates in appropriate in-service, workshops and conferences as directed. Exhibits collaboration skills and teamwork. Assists teachers with preparation of instructional materials. Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations as directed. Collects and maintains data for individual students as requested by the teacher and as required by law. Demonstrates professional and flexible attitude/rapport with other staff members. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.

Physical demands include talking and hearing, using hands to handle or feel objects or controls, reaching with hands and arms, sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must regularly move about a classroom to monitor students and work closely with them in a variety of settings (on the carpet, at their desk, at the playground).

Terms of employment include 10 months - 154 days 10 Month Support Staff Work Calendar 8.5 hours per scheduled day Monday-Thursday. Sick/Personal Leave, Health Benefits Participation in Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Must have or able to obtain IVP Fingerprint clearance card, Negative TB Test, Food Handlers Card. Compensation: $15.22- $16.06 Level 3 on the Support Staff Wage Schedule. Reports To: Classroom Teacher, Site Principal and Executive Director of Special Services.
