Morning Shift: 6:45 AM (Pickup at WES) to 8:30 AM (Drop-off at WES)
Afternoon Shift: 3:00 PM (Depart WES) to 4:15 PM (Return to WES)

POSITION DESCRIPTION :
Wilson Elementary School is seeking a part time Special Education Transportation Bus Aide. The Aide will provide support to students with diverse learning and physical needs during their daily morning and afternoon commute. The Aide will work alongside the bus driver to ensure a safe, positive, and secure environment from the moment students are picked up until they are safely delivered to their destination.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Sufficient vision to read printed material. Sufficient hearing to conduct in-person conversations. Understandable voice with sufficient volume and clarity to be heard in normal conversations. Sufficient dexterity to write, use telephone and office equipment. Sufficient strength to lift, move, push/pull, and carry heavy objects, and also to stoop/crouch and reach/handle. Ability to navigate bus entry/exit steps while securing students.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. - Assist students with safely boarding, riding, and exiting the school bus. Help secure seatbelts, harnesses, wheelchairs, or other specialized supportive equipment as needed.
- Monitor student behavior during transit, utilizing positive reinforcement and redirection strategies to maintain a calm and safe environment.
- Partner closely with the bus driver so they can focus entirely on the road. Alert the driver immediately to any safety or health disruptions.
- Maintain a friendly, welcoming demeanor with students, parents, and school staff during pickups and drop-offs. Report any notable behavioral or safety incidents to school administrators.
- Absolute punctuality is required for this role, as school transit relies on strict timing.
- Ability to assist students physically, which may include bending, lifting, or securing equipment in a moving vehicle environment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Work experience with young children is preferred.
