Special Education Bus Aide

The Special Education Bus Aide provides support to students with disabilities during transportation to and from school, ensuring a safe, positive, and orderly environment while assisting the bus driver with student supervision and individual student needs.

Essential Duties:

• Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus safely.
• Secure wheelchairs, safety harnesses, and other adaptive equipment as needed.
• Supervise students during transportation and help maintain appropriate behavior.
• Provide assistance with student needs as outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or transportation plans.
• Support students during emergency evacuations and follow all safety procedures.
• Communicate concerns regarding student behavior, health, or safety to the bus driver and appropriate school personnel.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Attend required trainings, including safety and crisis intervention, as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to work effectively with students with disabilities.
• Ability to lift, assist, and physically support students when necessary.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Must pass all required background checks and complete required district training.
