The team at Advanced Space is leading humanity back to the Moon and pioneering innovative solutions in the space industry. Based in Westminster, Colorado, this team is looking to add a highly motivated and passionate person to join the Innovation and Development team as a Solutions Architect/Portfolio Lead. The Solutions Architect will lead the technical development and assist in growing the business in the portfolio area. The Solution Architect’s role is to work with the CTO and Business Development to define the technology roadmap for the portfolio area and how it aligns to company goals and to execute on progressing technology along the roadmap. The Solutions Architect will first and foremost be knowledgeable on the portfolio area by understanding both past and current technologies/projects at Advanced Space that fall under the portfolio area as well as understanding the current state-of-the-art for technologies in which Advanced Space can compete in. Second to this, the Solutions Architect will lead the development of technologies in the portfolio area by forming high level concepts for future direction, working with the proposal and sales teams to win further work, and solicits and engages with IRAD efforts and funded projects to close technological gaps. The Solutions Architect will communicate the performance of the company in the portfolio area to the CTO, Business Development, and other company leadership in the areas of technological progress and growth/finances. Ultimately, the Solutions Architect should be able to answer most questions about anything in the relevant portfolio area, including technical, programmatic, financial, and the future direction of the portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Working with the CTO to develop a technology roadmap for technologies in the portfolio. Identifying gaps in the technology portfolio and creating strategies to address gaps.
  • Learning about and continuously tracking each project taking place at the company as well as each technology developed at the company in the portfolio area, enough to discuss at length with customers and partners.
  • Understanding the current technical state-of-the-art in the portfolio area.
  • Engaging in technical training and development to address knowledge gaps that are needed to form viable solutions.
  • Performing technical project work to maintain domain knowledge.
  • Attending and presenting at conferences as necessary to maintain domain knowledge as well as coordinating with marketing to create content to highlight portfolio technologies.
  • Working with the Business Development to identify and pursue opportunities to fund work relevant to the portfolio technology roadmap.
  • Developing and maintaining a knowledge base of relevant customers in the portfolio area as well as their priorities along with the customer obsession team; similarly, developing a knowledge base of relevant competitors and partners as well as a cursory understanding of their efforts in the portfolio area.
  • Meeting with customers/partners both face-to-face and virtually, discussing Advanced Space’s needs and capabilities and determining customer/partner needs and capabilities within the portfolio area.
  • Assessing the value of funded work in the portfolio versus new business investments and calculating return on investment to inform the closing of technology gaps in the portfolio.
  • Working with the proposal team and planned project tech leads to architect high level concepts to respond to proposals and align requirements and deliverables to proper internal/external stakeholders.
  • Reviewing proposals in portfolio area to ensure that technology aligns with the roadmap, advances the state-of-the-art, and is feasible for the company to pursue.
  • Works with the reputation team to develop effective and targeted messaging, conference papers, technical papers, etc.
  • Soliciting and engaging with IRAD efforts to mature technologies that are needed to close gaps in the roadmap when funded opportunities are not available or when maturing the technologies will increase the probability of winning funded work.
  • Coordinating with systems engineering and program management to ensure that company knowledge for projects and technologies within the portfolio area is properly documented and preserved.
  • Attending kickoffs and major milestone meetings for projects within portfolio while regularly synching up with project leadership to maintain knowledge and guidance for technology development.
  • Working with multiple programs in portfolio area to ensure that work is non-duplicative.
  • Understanding patents or other restrictions on usage of company technologies and whether they are trade secrets. Communicating relevant information regarding restrictions on technology usage to project managers and teams.
  • Identifying quarterly and yearly portfolio goals that align with tech roadmaps and company objectives.
  • Presenting quarterly updates to leadership on portfolio status including goals progress, technological progress, financials including spending, funding, and return on investment, and future outlook of technologies.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • College degree in Engineering or a related field, with emphasis on systems engineering or mission concept design, or deep knowledge of a specific mission critical subsystem engineering field. A Bachelors or equivalent is considered mandatory; a Masters or equivalent is highly preferred; a relevant Ph.D. is certainly desirable but not required.
  • 8 to 12 years of experience in relevant fields, building breadth in spacecraft mission design concepts. Preferred skills include mission design, navigation, spacecraft subsystem trades, spacecraft communications, and similar.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead architecture trade studies and translate mission objectives into requirements and ConOps.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Ability to work in the Westminster, CO office 5 days/week during core business hours.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base Salary Range – $134,000 - 174,000 based on role and experience
