SolidWorks Mechanical CAD Modeler for AI Training

Apply advanced parametric CAD expertise to create high-quality mechanical design data that helps train next-generation AI systems. This remote contract role centers on work in FreeCAD, with SolidWorks and other 3D parametric CAD experience directly transferable. Prior FreeCAD experience is preferred, but AI experience is not required.

• Create fully parametric 3D models of mechanical parts and assemblies from written briefs, using robust feature trees and precise constraints.
• Edit and update existing parametric models for new technical requirements, documenting all changes.
• Review models for dimensional accuracy, correct tolerance application, and manufacturability.
• Apply design-for-manufacturing principles for injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, casting, and forging.
• Translate design intent into clear, structured CAD data suitable for AI training.
• Provide detailed written reports and verbal updates to project coordinators and fellow contributors.

• At least 4 years of hands-on parametric CAD experience in SolidWorks, FreeCAD, Fusion 360, or Autodesk Inventor for model editing, and at least 10 years for creating complex assemblies.
• Practical experience applying GD&T under ASME Y14.5 or equivalent standards in manufacturing settings.
• Experience supporting at least two manufacturing methods: injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, or casting and forging.
• Current, active involvement in mechanical or industrial CAD modeling.
• Strong mechanical design, CAD editing, assembly modeling, feature tree management, tolerance application, manufacturability analysis, and project documentation skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Reverse-engineering experience, including scan-to-CAD or point-cloud conversion, is a significant advantage.
• Experience automating CAD workflows with Python, iLogic, VBA, or similar tools is a plus.

• Remote contract engagement.

$40 to $100 per hour.
