Job Title: Solar Mechanical Lead

Job Status: Full-Time Hourly

Reports to: Project Manager

Job Purpose: Under the direction of the Project Manager, the Mechanical Lead supervises a team that installs racking, solar modules, optimizers, and wiring that delivers DC power to an inverter or AC power to a combiner panel or point of interconnection. The Mechanical Lead works according to safety rules and regulations of electrical workers and Jefferson Electric, ensuring that all solar arrays are installed in a safe and proper manner.

Supervision Exercised: Mechanical Technicians

Responsibilities

  • Lead the installation of the mechanical components of solar PV systems, including racking, module mounting, and structural attachments
  • Interpret and execute mechanical layout drawings, plan sets, and project specifications with accuracy
  • Ensure compliance with structural and mechanical codes, AHJ requirements, manufacturer guidelines, and Jefferson Electric standards
  • Supervise and mentor mechanical installers and laborers assigned to the crew
  • Delegate daily tasks, coordinate team workflow, and ensure productivity to meet project timelines
  • Perform routine quality checks on mechanical installations to ensure alignment, torque specifications, and system integrity are met
  • Enforce proper use of PPE, fall protection, and other safety protocols on mechanical installation sites
  • Identify and mitigate mechanical hazards such as lifting risks, structural stability, or improper installation methods
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with OSHA standards and site-specific safety plans
  • Address alignment, fitment, or torque issues during racking and module installation
  • Support final inspections and punch list completion by verifying structural and aesthetic quality of installed systems
  • Coordinate with the electrical lead or project manager to ensure system readiness for commissioning

Job Requirements

  • Ability to lead and clearly instruct teams of apprentices and laborers with minimal supervision
  • Skilled in the use of basic hand tools, power tools, and light machinery (e.g., skid steers, trenchers)
  • Able to follow detailed instructions and execute work accurately according to project plans
  • Physically capable of lifting and carrying 50–75 lbs and working on feet for 8–14 hours per day
  • Comfortable working at heights on ladders, lifts, and rooftops, in various outdoor weather conditions
  • Demonstrates a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and a positive attitude under pressure
  • Flexible schedule with availability for overtime and weekend work as required
  • Certifications:
    ○ Journeyman Electrician License (preferred)
    ○ NABCEP PV Installer Certification (preferred)
    ○ OSHA 10 Certification (required or willingness to obtain)

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • Proven working experience
  • 3 years experience installing solar arrays

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Basic tooling for line of work
