Software Technology Consultant

Cyberonix helps clients understand complex software and answer technical questions in legal disputes and business decisions. In this role, you would examine source code, system designs, and engineering records to determine how software works, whether it uses particular technologies, or whether code or confidential information was copied or misused. You would explain your findings to non-engineers. Most work involves software litigation, also involves patent evaluation, software and AI assessment, and technology advising.

THE WORK

• Litigation first. Analyze source code and engineering records, often under protective order, for patent, trade-secret, copyright, class-action, and other software disputes.
• Build the technical record. Trace claim limitations, functionality, provenance, access, copying, similarity, and system behavior; create cited analysis for reports, depositions, and trials.
• Support earlier IP decisions. Contribute to infringement and invalidity assessments, patent portfolio strategy, licensing analysis, source code review, reverse engineering, and IP monetization work.
• Advise beyond disputes. Assess software architecture and engineering practices, AI systems, and technology risk for executives, boards, investors, and transaction teams.

WHAT YOU BRING

• Relevant consulting experience is a plus, not a gate. Experienced consultants can contribute immediately; newcomers with strong engineering or research backgrounds are expressly encouraged to apply.
• Strong academic credentials. Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field: PhD preferred; MS strongly valued; BS acceptable. A strong academic record is expected at every level.
• Engineering substance over logos. Strong software engineering experience matters. A recognizable company is a plus, not a prerequisite; experience with complex systems and sound judgment matter more.
• Code review and communication. Excellence in both is required: orient quickly, communicate clearly, cite meticulously, safeguard confidentiality, and state only what the evidence supports.
