Joby Flight Research Software Integration EngineerJoby's Flight Research group is looking for a skilled software integration engineer to play a pivotal role in the development and testing of cutting-edge flight automation systems. We're looking for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, takes full ownership, and consistently delivers high-impact results.ResponsibilitiesOwn the bring-up, integration, and checkout of GNC and flight automation software on test aircraftDevelop, review, and execute flight test cards targeting GNC performance characterization, stability margins, guidance accuracy, and autonomy feature validationTriage flight test squawks related to GNC and flight software; drive root-cause investigations and coordinate fixes with discipline engineersSupport flight readiness reviews, test readiness reviews, and configuration management processesDevelop and maintain test frameworks and processes for software and systemsDevelop automated testing frameworks and simulation tools to validate flight automation behaviorsContribute to flight controls and mission management software development (C++) as needed to support the test campaignDevelop and maintain analysis tools and scripts (Python) for pre-flight prediction, real-time monitoring, and post-flight evaluationContribute to simulation validation by correlating sim predictions with flight data and identifying model improvementsDevelop, debug, integrate, and optimize embedded software across hardware and software boundariesRequired2+ years work experience and a bachelor's degreeExperience working close to hardware and debugging in integrated environmentsExperience working with real-time or safety-critical software systemsSolid understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including networking, fault tolerance, and system designProven ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies across different problem domainsStrong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environmentThis position must meet US export control compliance requirements, therefore a candidate must qualify as a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15.

"US Person" includes US Citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees.DesiredAerospace related work experience.Experience in a flight test programExperience with mission management, robotics, or autonomous systems (path planning, contingency management, decision-making).Familiarity with the Bazel build system.Experience with messaging frameworks for distributed systems.Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $95,700 - $150,000/yr.
