Senior/Lead Software EngineerGTSC seeks a Senior/Lead Software Engineer for Fairmont, West Virginia. This position may be onsite, hybrid, or remote depending on project needs. Onsite roles require work at the client facility in Fairmont, WV. You will support State and Local IT Support Projects based in Fairmont, West Virginia for applications, such as GST's Assessor Assistant, Dog Tag, Online Filing, and Sheriff Tax. This role is responsible for the ongoing support, enhancement, and maintenance of both current and legacy applications, websites, and supporting infrastructure using Microsoft-based technologies. In addition to legacy support, this role will play a key role in modernizing and consolidating existing GST software applications into a unified, modular platform built on a modern technology stack. The engineer will help evolve current systems toward a configuration-driven model that allows functionality to be enabled or disabled based on client needs while maintaining continuity of service for existing customers. The ideal candidate is a senior-level engineer who is comfortable working across the full software lifecycle, balancing operational support responsibilities with forward-looking modernization and architectural improvement.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide application support, troubleshooting, and user training for legacy systems to provide continuity of service for mission-critical applicationsMaintain and update reports associated with GST applications, using tools such as Crystal ReportsDevelop and maintain databases, including design, implementation, optimization, and administrationAdminister and support websites, including permissions, ownership, indexing services, logs, usage statistics, and content management (website platforms include both ASP.NET and WYSIWYG editors (e.g., Wix)Produce and maintain comprehensive technical documentation such as requirements, design specifications, and user guidesIdentify, document, and prioritize technical debt and make trade off recommendations to stakeholdersDesign, develop, enhance, and maintain Windows-based and web applications using Microsoft development technologiesProvide mentoring and direction to junior software developer(s)Provide Windows desktop, server, and printer support, as required, to end usersRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience)Proven experience developing applications using C#, ASP.NET, VB6, and VB.NETExperience with HTML, JavaScript, and CSSStrong experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft AccessExperience working with legacy applications, including report development and maintenance using Crystal ReportsExperience administering and supporting IIS-hosted applications and servicesWorking knowledge of virtualized environments and Virtual Machines (VMs)Proficiency using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) for querying, troubleshooting, and database administrationExperience using GitHub for source control, collaboration, and version managementWorking knowledge of Windows system administrationAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a client-facing, government-supported environmentStrong analytical, documentation, and communication skillsDemonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical users, including government and public-sector stakeholdersAbility to successfully pass a government background investigationCompensation & BenefitsGST offers a comprehensive total rewards package including health, life, and disability insurance; retirement programs; paid leave; tuition assistance; professional development opportunities; and employee recognition programs.
