This role is in Textron System's Uncrewed Land and Air Systems business area.About This RoleThis Software Engineering role is within Textron System's Uncrewed Land and Air Systems division. Our team is engaged in multiple cutting-edge development programs for defense applications. A strong candidate for this role will possess a history of software development for robotic/autonomous applications. Required experience includes software/hardware interface development, software integration, and a history of working in a fast-paced team environment. In this role, you will be responsible for:Providing engineering support on both current and next generation technologies in support of our family of uncrewed ground and air productsParticipating in software development of new products across all phases of the product lifecycle from concept development to lab and offsite integration and evaluationTaking technical leadership/ownership of software components and systemsIntegrating internal and third-party software solutions into our productsInterfacing directly with the customerCollaborating with the software engineering team and other engineering disciplines to create functional systemsMentoring others within the teamPerforming trade studiesSupporting onsite & offsite integration and testDriving process improvementLeading software development effortsGrowth Opportunities include:Technical leadershipIndividual Contributor (SME)Engineering ManagementQualificationsBachelor's degree (in computer science or computer engineering or related field) required with 5 years of experience or master's degree (in computer science or computer engineering or related field) with 2 years of experience in addition to the following skills/experience:Understanding of robotics systems including sensors, actuators, mechanical, algorithms and software systemsProficiency in C/C++ programmingProficiency with Unix based operating systemsProficiency with shell scriptingKnowledgeable of Object-Oriented Analysis (OOA)/Object-Oriented Design (OOD)Experience using configuration management tools such as Git or MercurialEffective writing and presentation skillsExperience interacting directly with customersAbility to work in teams and independently with minimal directionTraveling up to 15% of the timeEligibility to obtain a Secret ClearancePreferred:Professional experience in autonomous driving/flight or robotics industry with experience in software/system integration and on-field testingExperience with MicroPilot's autopilot softwareExperience with MOOS DB/IvPExperience with Qt projects/librariesExperience with OpenDDSExperience with containerization platforms such as DockerExperience with Network/Serial/CAN interface developmentExperience frontend technologies including (but not limited to) CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, REST API, databases (SQL or NoSQL), and web UI designExperience with automation build servers such as JenkinsExperience with workflow management tools such as JiraExperience with static code analysis tools such as CoverityExperience developing MCP Servers and MCP Tools for use with LMMsExperience with AI software development and workflow toolsExperience with MIL-STD-882E software developmentExperience with UML or MBSE tools like MagicDrawHow We CareAt Textron Systems, our talented people make us successful. Textron's compensation package includes competitive base pay and provides eligible employees with benefit programs.
