Assistant Professor of Social Work – Department of Sociology
The Department of Sociology at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona seeks a tenure‑track faculty member to teach social work courses with an emphasis on micro‑level practice. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, advising, research, and service, and will play a key role in the development of the Department’s BSW program.
Responsibilities
- Teach four courses per semester, with one course release during initial years.
- Develop and evaluate course curricula, incorporating antiracist and anti‑oppressive perspectives.
- Advising and mentoring students, including undergraduate research and graduate mentoring.
- Engage in scholarly research, incorporating diverse methodologies and contributing to the Department’s research agenda.
- Serve on departmental, university, and community service committees.
- Assist in the planning and launch of the BSW program.
Minimum Requirements
- Ph.D. in Social Work, Sociology, or a related social science from an accredited university, completed by appointment start.
- Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE accredited university.
- University teaching experience as instructor of record and/or teaching assistant.
- Three references with names and contact information.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications
- Evidence of teaching across the Department’s curriculum.
- Demonstrated teaching excellence through evaluations, pedagogical innovations, or related evidence.
- Active scholarly agenda with opportunities for student research.
- Experience mentoring diverse undergraduate students.
- Curriculum and/or program development experience.
- Two years post‑MSW practice experience.
