SMT Rework Operator

SMT Rework TechnicianPerform surface mount technology (SMT) rework, repair, and modification of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) used in Navigation Aids, Surveillance Radios, and other electronic products. Utilize specialized soldering, desoldering, and inspection equipment to remove, replace, and repair electronic components while ensuring compliance with IPC standards, engineering specifications, and quality requirements.Before ReworkEnsure workstation is in proper working order (clean, well-lit, ESD-safe environment, tools and equipment calibrated and ready, personal protective equipment applied, etc.).Review Bills of Material (BOMs), Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), work instructions, and repair documentation.Review assembly drawings, schematics, component placement diagrams, and rework instructions to determine required repairs or modifications.Inspect PCB assemblies and identify defects, damaged components, soldering issues, or non-conformances requiring rework.Prepare soldering and rework equipment, including soldering irons, hot air stations, desoldering tools, and inspection equipment.During ReworkPerform SMT rework and repair on printed circuit board assemblies in accordance with IPC and company standards.Remove and replace surface mount components including resistors, capacitors, diodes, integrated circuits, connectors, transistors, voltage regulators, and microchips.Conduct precision soldering and desoldering of fine-pitch and high-density electronic components.Utilize microscopes, magnification equipment, and inspection tools to verify workmanship and component placement.Repair solder defects including bridges, opens, insufficient solder, lifted leads, and other workmanship issues.Verify component orientation, polarity, and placement against engineering documentation.Perform touch-up soldering and corrective actions on existing assemblies as required.Maintain accurate records of rework activities and completed repairs.Ensure all reworked assemblies meet quality, reliability, and workmanship standards.Support production schedules by completing rework assignments in a timely manner.Perform other duties as assigned.After ReworkConduct visual inspections and verification of completed repairs.Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to resolve assembly and reliability issues.Provide feedback on recurring defects and opportunities for process improvement.Assist with implementation of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and product modifications as required.QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED required.Minimum 18 months of hands-on SMT rework, soldering, or electronic repair experience.IPC-A-610 and/or IPC J-STD-001 certification preferred.Experience working with microscopes, hot air rework stations, soldering irons, and other electronic repair equipment.Ability to read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, and work instructions.RequirementsMust be able to pass a U.S. government background check investigation.Proof of U.S.
