Position: Small Animal Internist – Arkansas Veterinary Emergency

Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Board Certified or Residency Trained Internist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing high‑quality veterinary care and possess excellent communication skills to build lasting relationships with clients. You will work alongside a team of experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff and collaborate closely with the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups.
- Communicate and educate clients.
- Maintain accurate medical records.
- Prescribe medications and follow controlled substance protocols.
- Promote teamwork and staff efficiency.
- Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations.
- Evaluate and monitor protocols for daily hospital operations from intake to discharge.
- Monitor cases and attend daily rounds to uphold high standards.
- Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications (Required)
- Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university.
- 1‑year rotational internship in small animal medicine, surgery, or ER.
- Completed a 3‑year, AVMA‑approved residency program.
- Current state veterinary license.
- DEA registration maintained.
- Strong diagnostic and clinical skills.
- Team‑oriented environment skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to compassionate, high‑quality care.
- Client communication skills: elicit information, establish rapport, provide explanations.
- Confidence and reassurance when dealing with stressed or ill pets.
- Ability to perform required physical tasks, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
- Board Certification.
- 2–5 years of experience post‑residency.
- Demonstrated clinical knowledge in cardiopulmonary, orthopedic, neurological, and other examinations.
- Problem‑solving ability for veterinary hospital challenges.
- Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and internal staff.
- Professionalism and constructive feedback capability.
- Business acumen and understanding of hospital management and finances.
- Ethics knowledge guiding patient decisions.
- Commitment to continuing education and facilitation of others’ learning.
Pay Range
$150,000 – $250,000 USD
