If you do not mind hard work and want to make a difference in your community then please consider joining the FMCC family.Summary:The Skilled Laborer Assistant Pipelayer will be responsible for performing construction maintenance tasks like digging trenches, handling materials and preparing pipes for installation.Duties and Responsibilities:Measuring and configuring pipe routesGathering material and installation toolsDigging trenches using hand and machine trenching toolsLocating installed piping systems using magnetic or radio indicatorsRemoving old or broken piping systemsLaying pipes into trenches and applying pipe spacersChecking pipe alignment and sealing pipes with cement glueInstalling auxiliary linesSealing exposed pipe joints and fittingsFilling and sealing pipe trenchesSpreading gravel, asphalt and other materials over surfacesSet braces to support the sides of excavations, clean up debris and remove waste materialsInstallation of erosion and sediment controls (i.e. silt fence, super silt fence, gutter buddies, etc.)Loading, unloading, transporting pipes, tools and equipment to the worksiteBasic knowledge of the different types of pipes, their installation methods, and plumbing/piping conceptsMust wear proper attire at all times including PPEMay be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekendsAdditional duties as assignedJob Requirements:High school diploma or GED equivalent requiredMust have 2 years of experience working in heavy highway constructionAbility to read and interpret blueprints and construction plansDriver's license preferred with a clean driving recordKnowledge of sewer systems, storm drains, and water mainsKnowledge of the materials and equipment used in general street maintenance and construction workKnowledge of the methods and practices of pouring and finishing concreteOSHA 30 preferredFlagger License desiredMust be able to successfully pass a background and drug screeningWorking Conditions:Work outdoors in changing weather conditions, noisy, near fumes, vapor, dust, oils, loud noises, and potentially hazardous around heavy machinery that is constantly movingThis job requires the ability to lift, pull, and push a minimum of 50 lbs.Kneel, bend, stretching, twisting, reaching, using abdominal and lower back muscles repeatedly or over time without tiringIn addition, you must have the ability to be on stand for an extended periodThis includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfacesThis job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (glasses, contacts)Performing strenuous work in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time.*Note: This position is considered Safety-Sensitive, and therefore subject to various schedule and unscheduled screenings for controlled substances.We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and fully subscribe to the principles of Equal Employment Opportunity.
