Position Description
SUMMARY
Operate a variety of heavy equipment including, but not limited to, excavator/trackhoe, loader, backhoe, bulldozer, dump truck, tamper, and water truck.
TYPICAL DAILY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct routine inspections on equipment including moving parts, welds, and structural integrity prior to operating. Inform supervisor of all defects and malfunctions.
- Perform minor adjustments as needed. Assist mechanic with major repairs.
- Perform routine maintenance including lubricating, fueling, and cleaning equipment.
- Monitor gauges and other indicators ensuring safe operation.
- Grade, shape, and form work area.
- Backfill, spread fill, stabilize stone, load trucks and dump buckets, transport dump buckets, and move equipment - including rigging and attaching equipment to bucket hook.
- Adhere to all safety rules, guidelines, and codes.
- Maintain records of time worked and materials used.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED plus one (1) to three (3) months of related experience or training
- Maintain a valid Driver's License
- Knowledge of all heavy equipment operations including best practices in safe operation and maintenance
- Ability to appropriately judge distances, slopes, and depths accurately
- Ability to read engineer drawings, in some cases
- Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondences, memos, and blueprints
- Ability to write simple correspondences and complete logs
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
- Must understand and be committed to jobsite, workplace, and heavy equipment safety standards and processes
