Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, including data structures and algorithms.
- 3 years of experience managing people or teams, leading projects, and designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with on-call rotation.
- Experience with postmortem and root cause analysis.

Members of the Caching SRE team within AI Foundations build and operate Google’s core caching infrastructure, delivering ultra‑low latency and zero‑downtime reliability at planetary scale. They provide SRE partnerships for high‑performance services that underpin Search, Gemini, Workspace, Ads, YouTube, and many other critical systems.
The organization is globally distributed and embeds with development partners to engineer responsiveness, resilience, and best practices into products. The goal is to reduce the cost of operating Google’s caching infrastructure while meeting growing business demands.
In this role you will lead a team positioned directly on the critical path of Google’s most vital systems, fostering engineering excellence and defining the technical strategy for a high‑performing team. You will architect resilient, automated production environments that meet stringent Service Level Objectives and lead through some of Google’s most pressing challenges.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of SREs; drive technical execution, task management, and project delivery.
- Drive service reliability and performance, ensuring end‑to‑end availability, low latency, and high system efficiency in close partnership with Product Management and Engineering teams.
- Lead the team in building automation to prevent problem recurrence, reduce toil, and improve system reliability.
- Advocate and uphold Google’s blameless postmortem culture and drive production excellence.
- Perform, manage, and improve on‑call rotations spanning multiple continents; ensure healthy on‑call practices and response, including participation in a Tier‑1 on‑call rotation (5‑minute on‑call response time).
