Site Lead and Medical Director - BMC Brighton

Overview

Position Summary: The Site Lead Physician is a practicing primary care physician who provides clinical and operational leadership for the Boston Medical Center (BMC) Brighton or BMC South adult Primary Care practices of Boston Medical Center Health System (BMCHS). This role supports primary care access as BMCHS grows and provides the opportunity to develop, shape and lead these practice sites. The Site Lead ensures high-quality, patient-centered care while supporting provider engagement, operational efficiency, and alignment with the system’s mission and goals. The Site Lead serves as the clinical voice for the site, collaborating with practice management, nursing leadership, and system leaders. The position reports to the Chief Clinical Officer of BMCHS or designee and maintains relationships with other physician leadership in Primary Care and Family Medicine at BMC Brighton, BMC South, and BMC Main Campus, and the BMC Brighton Department of Medicine. Operationally, the role interfaces with management at BMC Brighton or South and the VP of Primary Care for BMCHS. The ideal candidate is excited about building and developing new sites for primary care and has at least 5 years of experience practicing adult primary care with board certification in internal medicine or family medicine.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the lead physician for the primary care site, modeling best practices in patient care, teamwork, and professionalism.
• Promote evidence-based clinical standards, quality improvement initiatives, patient engagement and satisfaction, and patient safety practices.
• Act as the clinical liaison for primary care between the site and system-level physician leadership.
• Identify, implement, evaluate, and refine new methods of health care delivery and operating models in primary care.
• Foster a collaborative, team-based care model that integrates physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and staff to provide high-quality interdisciplinary care.
• Provide guidance and leadership to residents, students, and other trainees within the clinic (subject to BMCHS internal medicine residency program leadership) and oversee preceptors for trainees where applicable.
• Lead recruitment and retention of clinicians to build and maintain the clinical team; mentor and advocate for practice physicians and APPs.
• Facilitate communication between site providers and health system leadership; promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Monitor the performance and productivity of medical providers to ensure alignment with organizational standards and intervene when standards are not met.
• Ensure the clinical team understands value-based care components and manage the components of total cost of care that can be impacted by effective clinical teams.
• Partner with the Practice Administrator and other administrative staff on operational planning, patient flow, template design, scheduling, and resource utilization across both community and academic modes of practice.
• Support site-level performance on key metrics: access, patient experience, panel management, productivity, and quality benchmarks.
• Provide input into staffing models, workflow design, and technology adoption to improve efficiency; resolve operational or clinical issues at the site.
• Ensure the site’s goals and performance align with the health system’s primary care strategy, including management of both academic and community models of care, productivity and panel management.
• Engage with academic and community medical staff and leadership on clinical care and quality initiatives; participate in system-level committees or workgroups representing the practice.
• Support initiatives related to value-based care, population health, and care coordination across the system.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of experience practicing adult primary care.
• Board-certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
• Ability to develop and lead new primary care sites, with strong communication and leadership skills.

Compensation & Other Details

The base salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on factors including clinical FTE, qualifications, experience, education, board certifications, specialty, training, and scope of practice. The hiring range represented is a good faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Any eligible incentive compensation is not included in the above compensation range and will be discussed during the interview process.
