Shift Lead

Job Overview

The Shift Lead at Banfield Pet Hospitals provides leadership and paraprofessional support across all shifts, ensuring the hospital runs efficiently and delivers high‑quality care to pets and clients.

Responsibilities

• Paraprofessional Duties (approx. 80% of time)
  • Exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within the team.
  • Perform CSC and veterinary assistant/technician tasks, including client recruitment, routing, and education on opt‑in wellness plans.
  • Maintain client and pet records, oversee documentation, and manage billing and retail sales.
  • Handle financial responsibilities, including daily cash reconciliation and supply inventory.
  • Assist with surgical prep and provide support to veterinarians and technicians as allowed by state practice acts.
  • Ensure safety and cleanliness of treatment areas, following standard protocols.
• Leadership Duties (approx. 20% of time)
  • Support the Practice Manager in staff scheduling, training, and supervision to maximize productivity and quality of care.
  • Facilitate effective communication among associates, clients, and central team support.
  • Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks, ensuring smooth patient flow.
  • Oversee case assignments, equipment readiness, and triage of treatment board.
  • Provide client service leadership, resolving issues and maintaining satisfaction.
  • Ensure adherence to Banfield dress and grooming guidelines and overall practice protocols.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or veterinary technician certification/licensure preferred.
• Minimum two years of healthcare or veterinary‑related experience; six months at Banfield preferred.
• Prior supervisory experience and familiarity with veterinary procedures.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
• Proficiency with computers and specialized veterinary software.
