Shift Lead is a leadership position that plays dual roles as a Clinic Service Coordinator (CSC) and/or veterinary assistant/technician while ensuring continuity and operational support across all shifts.
Responsibilities
- Perform CSC and veterinary assistant/technician duties, including client recruitment, routing, client education, documentation, financial management, surgery assistance, and administrative functions.
- Prioritize duties with an approximate split of 20% leadership and 80% paraprofessional work, using good judgment to maximize hospital productivity.
- Lead the paraprofessional team: assist the Practice Manager with scheduling, training, supervision, and choosing new team members.
- Maintain quality and safety: keep records complete, monitor equipment, enforce sterilization and safety protocols, and ensure all hospitalized pets are properly prepped.
- Support the Practice Manager in labor management, identifying bottlenecks, and improving medical operations.
- Drive client service excellence: model the Five Principles, manage client conversations, resolve issues, and promote Optimum Wellness Plans and other services.
- Communicate effectively among associates, clients, hospital leadership, Central Team Support, and field leadership.
- Maintain Banfield dress, grooming, and safety guidelines.
- Other job duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions
- Work with animals of various species; may require more than 40 hours per week, including weekends and evenings.

- Requires good hand‑eye coordination and visual acuity.
- Exposure to animals, anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and controlled substances.
Experience, Education, and/or Training
- Associate’s degree or veterinary technician certification/licensure preferred, or equivalent education and experience.
- Two years of experience in a healthcare, veterinary, or service industry is required; six months at Banfield preferred.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Medical background with veterinary terminology training preferred.
Pay Range
$20.35 – $26.00 hourly, adjusted by experience, skill level, education, location, and applicable minimum wage laws.
