Sheet Metal ApprenticeUnder general supervision, fabricates high quality sheet metal signs effectively and efficiently. Responsible to use and program cutting and welding equipment to cut and weld metals and other materials to create parts for sign assembly.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Reviews plans and diagrams to ensure accuracy of cutting of materials to create sign partsPlans, prepares and uses materials to be cut in a matter to keep waste to a minimumCuts materials consistent with specifications of job orderOperates metal cutting equipment to accurately cut materials to job specificationsOperates welding equipment to weld sign parts togetherImplements and maintains quality control and safety during material handling, cutting, and weldingSands, polishes, and cleans cut materialsLays out materials to be used for skinning/covering sign structuresBends and shapes sign parts according to job specificationsPerforms pre-painting and wiring preparation by cleaning and labeling of partsTouches up paint and performs detail of signsPerforms preventative maintenance and minor repairs to sheet metal department equipmentPerforms duties to ensure department meets expectations and deadlinesMarginal Duties & Responsibilities:Monitors parts and materials inventoryMoves materials and cut parts around the YESCO facilityAssists other sheet metal employeesRacks and pallets materials for shippingKeeps shop area clean and free from debris to maintain a safe working environmentPerforms other functions as necessary or as assignedNature Of Work Contacts:Interacts daily with employees and supervisors at the YESCO facilities to discuss sheet metal department projectsTraining & Qualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
