Snapshot / Role Overview
We're seeking a Service Chiller Technician in Dallas-Fort Worth, TX to lead the diagnosis, repair, and overhaul of complex large-tonnage commercial and industrial chiller plants.
Impact
- Ensures the peak performance and reliability of critical cooling infrastructure for commercial and industrial clients.
- Minimizes client downtime through expert troubleshooting of sophisticated mechanical and electrical systems.
- Mentors junior technicians and serves as the highest level of technical expertise for the field service team.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair complex issues in centrifugal, screw, reciprocating, and turbo-core chiller compressors.
- Perform full system teardowns, rebuilds, and overhauls on large-tonnage chiller plants.
- Troubleshoot electrical starters including Wye-Delta, solid-state, and Variable Frequency Drives.
- Execute leak detection on low-pressure systems and conduct motor insulation resistance testing.
- Maintain related equipment including boilers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and commercial rooftop units.
- Document all service activities, parts usage, and recommendations via digital service reports.
- Interpret technical blueprints, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer schematics to solve operational deficiencies.
- Communicate technical findings and maintenance recommendations clearly to facility managers and owners.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols including lockout/tagout, confined space entry, and OSHA standards.
Requirements
Must-Haves:
- 5 or more years of experience in commercial or industrial HVAC service focusing on large-tonnage chillers.
- EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration cycles.
- Valid driver license with a clean driving record and ability to pass a background check.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Manufacturer-specific training or certifications from Trane, Carrier, York, or Daikin/McQuay.
- Experience with combustion analysis on commercial boiler systems.
- Advanced proficiency with VFD troubleshooting and controls integration.
