Snapshot / Role Overview
We're seeking a Service Chiller Technician in Austin, TX to lead the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of complex large-tonnage commercial and industrial chiller plants.

- Ensures high-performance operation of critical cooling infrastructure for commercial and industrial clients.
- Minimizes facility downtime through expert troubleshooting of centrifugal and screw compressors.
- Mentors junior technicians by demonstrating advanced technical proficiency and safety standards.
- Enhances customer satisfaction by providing detailed system analysis and preventative maintenance recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair large-tonnage chillers including centrifugal, screw, reciprocating, and absorption types.
- Perform full system teardowns, rebuilds, and overhauls on compressors, oil systems, and starters.
- Conduct leak detection on low-pressure systems and perform insulation resistance testing on motors.
- Manage service calls for unitary and packaged systems up to 50 tons, including VFDs and controls.
- Diagnose and repair combustion or flow issues in commercial boiler systems and cooling towers.
- Execute cleanings and gasket replacements for heat exchangers and related plant components.
- Document all service activities, parts usage, and technical recommendations using mobile service tools.
- Interpret complex blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to resolve operational issues.
- Communicate technical findings and system operation training clearly to facility managers.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols including OSHA standards, lockout/tagout, and confined space entry.
Requirements
Must-Haves:
- Minimum 5 years of field experience in commercial or industrial HVAC service.
- Proven expertise in large-tonnage centrifugal and screw chiller systems.
- EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.
- Valid driver license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work on-call rotations and overtime as needed for emergency repairs.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Manufacturer-specific training from Trane, York, Carrier, or Daikin.
- Experience with combustion analysis on commercial boiler systems.
- Advanced proficiency in troubleshooting VFDs and building automation interfaces.
