Server — With a Path to Leadership
Whether you want to become one of the best servers on our team or the next person we develop into a leader, we want to talk to you.
RAS is a plant-based restaurant in Crown Heights with an Ethiopian-inspired menu, a James Beard nomination, a starchefs award and a remarkably loyal guest community. About 80% of our guests have visited us before.
That loyalty does not come from great food alone. It comes from how our team makes people feel.
Our values are:
Stewardship. Integrity. Excellence. Honor & Respect. Teamwork. Radical Kindness.
We believe kindness is a strength, not a weakness. We also hold ourselves to a genuinely high standard. We are a kind place and a demanding one. Both at the same time, on purpose.
What You’ll Do:
- Take care of guests the way you would want to be taken care of. That means reading the table, not simply taking and delivering an order.
- Learn a menu that may be unfamiliar to many guests and become genuinely excited to introduce people to it.
- Work as part of a team that supports and covers for one another without always needing to be asked.
- Notice the details that shape the guest experience and take action when something needs attention.
A Real Path to Leadership:
Not everyone who joins us needs to become a manager. Being an excellent server is valuable and respected here. But for those who want more, there is a genuine opportunity to grow.
Servers who notice what needs to be fixed before they are told, who naturally earn the trust of their teammates, and who consistently take ownership may be developed into Shift Leaders.
Our strongest Shift Leaders can grow into management positions and, eventually, General Manager roles.
What We’re Looking For:
Genuine warmth: You sincerely enjoy taking care of people, not simply serving them.
Ownership: When something is wrong, you address it or find someone who can.
Coachability: You can receive direct feedback, learn from it, and improve.
Teamwork: You understand that great service requires people supporting one another.
High standards: You care about the small details, even when nobody's watching.
Restaurant experience is helpful, but it is not required. Character matters more than résumé length here.
For candidates interested in the leadership track, we are especially interested in people whom others naturally trust, seek out for guidance, or look to when something needs to get done. That leadership experience can be formal or informal.
What You Should Know Before Applying:
We hold ourselves to a high standard in our food, our guest experience, and the way we treat one another.
That standard does not disappear because the restaurant is busy or someone is having a difficult day. We support one another through challenging moments, but we remain accountable to the standard.
If that sounds energizing rather than exhausting, you may thrive here—whether your goal is to become an exceptional server or a future leader at RAS.
