About the Role


A large electric utility is seeking an experienced Transmission Engineer (Level IV or V) to lead the design, engineering, and execution of high-voltage transmission and substation projects. This role will support capital projects, system reliability initiatives, and modernization efforts across a regional transmission network.


This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys technical leadership, mentoring, and working on complex power system infrastructure.



Responsibilities:



  • Lead engineering and design for transmission and substation capital projects.

  • Develop technical specifications, standards, and equipment requirements.

  • Support transmission planning, design reviews, and project execution.

  • Perform engineering analysis using PLS-CADD or similar transmission design software.

  • Provide technical guidance to project teams, contractors, and internal stakeholders.

  • Evaluate new technologies and collaborate with equipment manufacturers and vendors.

  • Support construction, commissioning, and field engineering activities.

  • Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements (NERC, FERC, IEEE, NEC, etc.).

  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on complex projects.



Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

  • Engineer IV: 6+ years of transmission engineering experience.

  • Engineer V: 10+ years of transmission engineering experience.

  • Experience with:

  • High-voltage transmission systems

  • Substations

  • Protective relaying

  • SCADA and control systems

  • Transformers and circuit breakers

  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD (or equivalent transmission design software).

  • Strong project management, communication, and technical writing skills.

  • Experience working with applicable utility codes and standards.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

  • Experience with utility regulatory compliance and transmission system operations.
