Senior Transmission Line Engineer – Power Delivery Team
Location: Ft Worth, TX ; Austin, TX ; Houston, TX ; Tulsa, OK (preferred). Flexible work arrangements are offered, with the option to work remotely or from one of our offices across the South‑Central region.
Responsibilities
Provides technical leadership and guidance for the planning, design, and delivery of high‑voltage (up to 765 kV) overhead transmission line projects. Tasks include research, design, concept development, planning, client interactions, business and proposal development, construction support, and staff mentorship. Supports project development through disciplined engineering practices, coordination across multidisciplinary teams, and adherence to established quality and safety standards.
- Lead and execute the engineering of transmission projects up to 765 kV.
- Lead and/or support the initial project execution layout to ensure an efficient project plan.
- Create and maintain a project schedule.
- Conduct weekly or bi‑weekly project meetings to outline upcoming deliverables and tasks.
- Coordinate with clients on project status and support project meetings as needed.
- Maintain project workflow and communicate across multidisciplinary projects.
- Forecast upcoming project requirements to assist in resource planning.
- Facilitate and adhere to WSP’s QA/QC procedures.
- Participate in industry conferences to promote professional growth.
- Demonstrate design expertise in PLS‑CADD, structure staking, foundations, assembly drawings, structure loading, material procurement, construction specifications, methods, estimates, and support.
- Lead project teams of varying sizes.
- Travel to client offices/field/vendor facilities as required.
- Support the Project Manager with status reports, scope, schedule, and budget.
- Assist the PM with scope variances and client meetings.
- Develop client relationships to support future work.
- Support resource forecasting and recruitment efforts.
- Provide business improvement methodologies and procedures.
- Support staff performance and technical development with department leadership.
- Contribute to business planning and perform additional responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
10+ years of post‑education experience in electrical transmission engineering for capital projects (generation, transmission, distribution) at utility, industrial, or commercial scale.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of engineering and civil design experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required (multi‑state preferred).
- Understanding of NESC, RUS, and/or GO‑95.
- Strong grasp of transmission line fundamentals and PLS‑CADD operation.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
- Track record of upholding workplace safety and WSP’s health, safety, and conduct policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Field program planning, management, and execution.
- Subcontractor management.
- Cost estimating and scheduling.
- Field experience.
- MBA degree from an accredited university.
- Membership in technical societies (IEEE, CIGRE, ASCE, etc.).
- Experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD/MicroStation, FAD Tools, SHAFT, LPILE.
- POLE and TOWER experience.
