Senior Traffic Engineer

Location: Fairfax, VA / Richmond, VA / Virginia Beach, VA

Dewberry is seeking a motivated Senior Traffic Engineer to join a large team of traffic engineers. Projects range from local community-focused safety and multimodal projects to large freeway improvement projects. This position offers tremendous career growth potential in a highly collaborative environment while working on a broad range of project types for local and national transportation clients.

Primary responsibilities include performing and managing traffic engineering design and studies related to work zone traffic control, signing and pavement markings, traffic signals, lighting, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and traffic operational analyses. Experience in all of these disciplines is not required.

Ideal candidate has a minimum of 5 years of traffic engineering experience, including experience on VDOT, MDOT, and/or design-build projects. Applicants must have strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to monitor schedule and budgets, the ability to work in groups, and the ability to lead and mentor a group of junior traffic engineers. This position offers flexible work hours and the ability for part-time telework.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analysis for various traffic related tasks.
  • Work in a team environment and collaborate with roadway, structures, hydraulics, and environmental groups within the Transportation business unit.
  • Manage various traffic-related tasks.
  • Prepare design and cost estimates, meet with clients, and assist in proposal development.

Required Skills & Experience

  • BS in Civil Engineering.
  • PE license preferred, PTOE preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in traffic engineering.
  • VDOT, MSHA, MDTA and/or design-build experience preferred.
  • MicroStation experience required.
  • Proficiency with analysis software (VISSIM, Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS) preferred.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Project Management and leadership skills preferred.

The projected range for this position is $118,000 - $151,000 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
