Senior Traffic Engineer

The Opportunity

We are partnering with an established, multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm seeking an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to join its transportation team.

This is a senior-level opportunity for a traffic engineering professional who can provide technical leadership, manage complex transportation projects, and work directly with clients and public-sector agencies. The ideal candidate will bring extensive hands‑on traffic engineering experience along with strong project management and client-facing capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage traffic engineering projects from planning through completion.
• Perform and oversee traffic analysis, traffic design, and traffic safety studies .
• Prepare and review traffic impact studies and operational analyses .
• Oversee traffic data collection and analysis .
• Design and evaluate traffic control devices and roadway safety improvements .
• Ensure designs comply with MUTCD requirements and applicable federal, state, and local standards.
• Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, resources, and deliverables .
• Prepare and review technical reports, engineering documents, and project proposals.
• Provide technical leadership and QA/QC for traffic engineering deliverables.
• Coordinate with clients, DOTs, municipalities, regulatory agencies, and other project stakeholders.
• Support and mentor junior engineers and technical staff.
• Assist with business development, proposal preparation, and client relationship management .
• Collaborate with roadway, highway, civil, and other transportation engineering teams on multidisciplinary projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
• 12+ years of hands‑on traffic engineering experience.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• PTOE certification preferred.
• Strong experience with traffic analysis, traffic operations, traffic design, and traffic safety .
• Experience preparing and reviewing traffic impact studies and operational analyses .
• Strong knowledge of MUTCD and applicable transportation design standards .
• Demonstrated experience managing project scopes, schedules, budgets, and resources .
• Experience working directly with clients, DOTs, municipalities, and other public agencies .
• Experience with both DOT and private-sector transportation projects preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lead projects and provide technical guidance to engineering teams.
