Brayton Energy is seeking a Test Engineer to develop and execute rigorous testing strategies for advanced gas turbine power systems. This role is ideal for engineers who combine strong technical skills with sound engineering judgment and curiosity. You will develop test plans, conduct tests and analyze results to characterize and validate components and systems.
You’ll work closely with mechanical, aerodynamics, chemical, and electrical engineers, and skilled technicians to validate complex systems in a laboratory environment.
Work and Surrounding Environment:
- Variety. A research, design, and development company engaged in several projects at any given time related to design and development of gas turbine engines, turbine gensets, compact high-temperature heat exchangers, and high-speed generators.
- Technical Challenge. Extreme and varied measurement needs, often with high accuracy required.
- Talented and Creative Colleagues. Team with other creative Engineers and highly capable support staff (Designers/Drafters, Mechanical and Electrical Technicians, Precision Machinists). Project teams are small, interdisciplinary, and collaborative.
- New England Seacoast. Located in Hampton on the New Hampshire seacoast near beaches, with short drives to all the restaurants and shops in Portsmouth and Exeter, and 50 minutes to Boston. Additionally, NH has no sales or income taxes.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain test plans, test cases, and procedures based on requirements and design specifications, factoring safety aspects related to testing high speed, high temperature, high pressure, high voltage equipment.
- Select instrumentation appropriate to test requirements.
- Execute tests including aerodynamic performance, heat exchanger performance, high-speed rotor stability, high-speed alternator performance, thermo-mechanical integrity.
- Collaborate with engineers and technicians to understand designs, risks, and failure modes.
- Design and maintain test fixtures, equipment, and environments.
- Analyze test results and provide clear, actionable reports and recommendations.
- Support root-cause analysis and verification of corrective actions.
- Participate in requirements and design reviews to ensure testability.
- Continuously improve testing processes and tools.

Professional Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or related technical field.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in test engineering or empirical science.
- Working knowledge of instrumentation used in gas turbine and component test rigs for measurement of temperature, massflow, pressure, vibrations, speed.
- Working knowledge of data acquisition systems, including high frequency systems for rotor dynamics measurements.
- Strong understanding of test methodologies, measurement uncertainty, and quality principles.
- Technical curiosity to work effectively in a cross-functional team and understand the physics of what is being measured and of the instrumentation capturing a recording data.
- Ability to write clear test documentation and report.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Engineering Judgment: Ability to recognize abnormal system behavior and take appropriate action.
