Senior Technical Lead

This role sits within HCLTech's App & IoT engineering track supporting Daikin's Embedded Controls domain. The team builds and maintains the cloud-connected application layer that bridges Daikin's embedded/IoT devices with end-user mobile and web applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the App & IoT engineering team for Daikin's Embedded Controls program, providing technical direction and hands-on leadership from an onsite position.
• Own end-to-end technical architecture for the App & IoT stack, spanning the AWS backend (S3, Amplify), React-based web/mobile applications (iOS/Android), and BLE-based device connectivity (ESP32, AWS IoT Rainmaker).
• Act as the primary onsite technical point of contact for Daikin's Engineering Manager; translate business and product requirements into engineering tasks and allocate work across the offshore App & IoT and AWS engineers.
• Drive design, implementation, and code/architecture reviews for phone-to-ESP32 BLE communication, ensuring reliable and secure connectivity.
• Guide and, where needed, personally design/develop/debug embedded firmware in C/C++, applications, and device drivers.
• Oversee implementation and troubleshooting of Modbus RTU/TCP communication protocols where applicable to connected devices.
• Define and review the strategy for hardware/software test benches, unit testing, integration testing, and system-level verification across the App & IoT stack.
• Own root-cause analysis and resolution of complex firmware, application, and connectivity defects and performance issues.
• Collaborate closely with hardware, testing, systems engineering, and Model-Based Design teams to ensure a coherent end-to-end solution.
• Mentor offshore engineers, review their deliverables, and build hands-on technical capability within the team.
• Own and review technical documentation, architecture/design specifications, and test reports produced by the team.
• Support Daikin and HCLTech leadership with resource planning and staffing recommendations as the engagement scales.

Skill Requirements

Required Skills & Experience

• 10+ years of overall experience in embedded, IoT, or mobile/application engineering, including demonstrated technical leadership.
• Strong hands-on expertise with AWS services, particularly S3 and Amplify.
• Proven experience building and shipping React-based web applications and native iOS/Android mobile applications.
• Very strong, demonstrable experience in BLE communication between a mobile phone and a microcontroller, ideally ESP32.
• Working knowledge of AWS IoT Rainmaker or equivalent device-provisioning/connectivity frameworks.
• Solid C/C++ programming background for embedded/firmware-adjacent development.
• Familiarity with Modbus RTU/TCP communication protocols is an advantage.
• Experience defining and reviewing hardware/software test benches and validation strategies for connected products.
• Strong stakeholder management, client-facing communication, and the ability to work onsite alongside the client's Engineering Manager.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a distributed (onsite/offshore) engineering team.

Educational Qualification

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. Cloud backend: AWS (S3, Amplify) - AWS IoT Core is not currently in use.

• Device connectivity: BLE and AWS IoT Rainmaker on ESP32-based hardware.
• Strong, hands-on experience with phone-to-ESP32 BLE communication is a core requirement for this track.

A candidate's pay within the range will depend on their skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law.
