We are partnering with a growing CPA firm to hire an experienced Senior Tax Manager . This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys the technical side of tax and leading people but wants a more sustainable alternative to the traditional public accounting grind.

You’ll serve as a senior technical tax resource while managing and developing a team. The right person will be technically strong, organized, good with people, and comfortable taking ownership of work from preparation through final review.

What You’ll Do

Perform final review of individual and business tax returns

Prepare more complex returns when needed

Review California and multi-state returns

Work extensively with S-Corporations, partnerships and individual taxation

Assist with tax planning, estimates and technical research

Serve as a technical resource for other members of the tax team

Prioritize assignments and keep work moving through completion

Manage, coach and develop professional staff

Work closely with remote and offshore team members

Coordinate tax and accounting/bookkeeping workflow

Help improve processes, procedures and overall team performance

Monitor deadlines, quality and budgets

The position is approximately 80% review and 20% hands-on preparation . This is not a position for someone who only wants to review work — you’ll still jump into complex returns when needed.

What We’re Looking For

5+ years of progressive public accounting and tax experience

Recent, meaningful California tax return preparation and review experience with both individual and business returns

Strong S-Corporation, partnership, individual and multi-state tax experience

Experience taking tax work from preparation through final review

Proven direct people-management experience , ideally managing 2–3+ employees

Experience coaching, developing and prioritizing work for a team

Active CPA strongly preferred; experienced EA candidates may also be considered

Strong understanding of financial statements and underlying accounting/bookkeeping

UltraTax experience is a plus

Experience working with remote or offshore professionals is a plus

Strong communication skills and emotional intelligence

Collaborative, hands‑on approach with a low‑ego leadership style

Schedule

This is a fully remote U.S.-based position , but working hours are important. Candidates need to be available primarily 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Pacific Time and have some flexibility when coordinating with an international team.

The Opportunity

This firm is looking for someone who wants to remain challenged technically and continue progressing professionally without sacrificing work‑life balance.

You’ll have meaningful responsibility for tax quality, planning and team development while working in an environment that does not require traditional public accounting busy‑season hours .

If you’re a strong public accounting tax professional who enjoys being the technical resource and developing people — but you’re ready for a more sustainable schedule — we’d like to hear from you.
