The Tax Manager is responsible for managing a broad range of tax compliance, planning, and consulting services for individuals, businesses, trusts, and other entities. This role ensures timely and accurate tax filings, identifies tax-saving opportunities, and provides strategic guidance while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws. The Tax Manager also supervises staff, manages client relationships, and contributes to the firm's growth and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and oversee federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, S corporations, trusts, and nonprofit organization
  • Research complex tax issues and develop practical solutions for clients and internal stakeholder
  • Provide proactive tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities and support long-term financial goal
  • Manage multiple client engagements while ensuring deadlines and quality standards are me
  • Review work prepared by tax staff and seniors, providing coaching, technical guidance, and constructive feedback
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships by serving as a trusted advisor
  • Respond to tax notices and represent clients before taxing authorities as appropriate
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and communicate their impact to clients and team members
  • Assist with tax projections, estimated payments, and year-end tax planning
  • Collaborate with accounting, audit, payroll, and advisory teams to deliver comprehensive client solutions
  • Participate in business development activities, including networking, proposal preparation, and client presentations
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency, and leverage technology within the tax department
  • Maintain compliance with professional standards, firm policies, and ethical requirements

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or active progress toward licensure (depending on employer requirements)
  • Five or more years of progressive tax experience in public accounting or a combination of public and private industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state income tax laws
  • Experience preparing and reviewing a variety of tax returns
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Taxation or Accounting
  • Experience with tax research software and tax preparation soft
  • Experience supervising or mentoring professional software staff
  • Knowledge of multi-state taxation, tax planning, and IRS procedures
