Responsibilities include designing, planning, and evaluating physical security systems in accordance with Department of State policies and procedures. Provides innovative methods and technical solutions using the engineering design process, including documentation.How a Systems Engineer Will Make an Impact:Develops advanced technical solutions for the management of networks, software, hardware, configurations, and architecturesTroubleshoots highly complex system hardware and software issuesDevelops training materials for end users on the proper use of hardware and softwareDevelops implementation plans for software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packagesMonitors and tunes systems to achieve optimum performance levelsEnsures workstation/server data integrity by implementing standard software and hardware solutionsLeads efforts to ensure data/media recoverability by following a schedule of system backups and database archive operationsConducts advanced hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelinesDevelops performance and security plans for computers that meet the needs of network usersEvaluates existing systems and plans long-term strategiesMay coach and provide guidance to less-experienced professionalsMay serve as a team or task leadPreferred Experience:VMware virtualization technologiesTCP/IP, IPV4 and IPV6Windows Operating SystemsLinux Operating SystemsNetwork protocols and standards, HTTP/HTTPS, WINS, DNS, SNMP etc.TLS standardsOSI ModelActive Directory to include Group Policy managementSecurity Content Automation ProtocolWhat You'll Need to Succeed:Education: Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering or similar discipline andRequired Experience: 10+ years of related technical security experience or the equivalent combination of education/training and/or experience.Required Certifications: DoW 8570 IAT Level II certification - Security+ CE, ISC2 SSCPSecurity Clearance Level: Top SecretRequired Technical Skills: User level proficiency of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD/Visio)Required Abilities: Ability to lift 50 lbs.
