Responsibilities
- Design high voltage substation physical layouts up to 500 kV.
- Create and modify single line diagrams and general arrangements.
- Prepare detailed elevation and section views.
- Develop detailed assembly and installation details and bills of materials.
- Coordinate with other disciplines and conduct site visits for data gathering and as-built documentation.
- Write and evaluate contractor bids and construction specifications.
- Perform factory acceptance and shop drawing reviews to ensure design specification compliance.
- Verify client equipment and design specifications against industry standards.
- Perform engineering calculations including equipment sizing, bus strength, insulation coordination, grounding, and lightning protection.
- Generate engineering fee estimates and provide field support during construction and commissioning.
- Mentor and train less experienced engineers and design staff.
- Travel overnight for client meetings or site visits as required.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. from an ABET-accredited university.
- 10+ years of substation physical design experience.
- Experience working directly with clients and supporting marketing proposals preferred.
- Experience managing design budgets and schedules preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States for any duration.
- PE license required; ability to obtain Texas PE within six months of hire.
