Job Description
WSP is currently seeking a Mid‑Level Structural Engineer for our Power Delivery Substation Structural Group. The role focuses on engineering design for electrical substations, collaborating with our Civil/Structural Team to deliver solutions that meet client objectives and solve challenges.
Opportunity
Working with minimal supervision, you will lead other engineers, designers, and drafters and perform every aspect of electrical substation structural design, including foundation, structural supports, rigid bus, and control building design. Tasks include developing structural construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals, project schedules, bus analysis calculations, and coordinating with multiple disciplines.
Your Impact
- Lead engineers, designers, and drafters while self‑performing all substation structural design.
- Support physical design with bus analysis calculations and coordinate results with other disciplines.
- Prepare calculation packages to satisfy client, code, and WSP requirements.
- Coordinate with all disciplines contributing to electrical substation design.
- Evaluate constructability of electrical substations.
- Ensure plans adhere to client and WSP standards.
- Confirm dimensions, materials, and quality meet contract requirements.
- Develop structural construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals, and project schedules.
- Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and provide construction phase support.
- Participate in occasional travel, as required.
- Effectively communicate with team members and clients in English.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects and maintain budgets and schedules.
- Own project goals and success, exercising responsible decision‑making regarding company resources.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering) from an ABET‑accredited institution.
- 5 to 7 years of post‑education experience in structural design.
- Expertise in structural analysis of steel, concrete, soil mechanics, and foundation design.
- Strong mechanical reasoning and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Advanced knowledge of building codes and standards (ASCE, ACI, AISC, IEEE, etc).
- Successful completion of the NCEES Professional Engineering (PE) exam.
- Track record of upholding workplace safety and adhering to WSP health, safety, and conduct policies.
- Flexibility to work schedules beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in electric utility substation design.
- Familiarity with RISA, MathCAD, LPile.
- Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently and manage budgets and schedules.

Compensation
Expected salary: $90,000 – $120,000 (at all locations). Compensation may vary based on education, experience, skills, and location. WSP reserves the right to offer a different amount within the posted range.
