Better Places.The RoleStratus recently partnered with PVEDI and is seeking a Senior Structural Project Engineer to join the team. This person will provide expert level technical design/investigation services and manage emergency structural response situations including building collapses, retaining wall failures, facade collapses, and other urgent structural issues. This role requires expertise in structural design and analysis for steel, concrete, timber, and masonry systems across buildings ranging from single-story to 10+-story structures.

The ideal candidate is technically strong, responsive under pressure, and capable of delivering practical engineering solutions for both emergency and long-term structural needs.ResponsibilitiesPerform structural design and analysis (steel, concrete, timber, masonry, etc.) for building structuresPrepare calculation packages, technical specifications, and design documentationProduce construction drawings, details, specifications, and design deliverablesReview and coordinate structural submittals, respond to RFIs, issue addenda, and review shop drawingsConduct site visits for periodic observation, construction administration, and verification of field conditionsPerform structural assessments, retrofit/rehabilitation/repair designs, and forensic investigationsDevelop technical reports with conclusions that clients can easily understandConduct structural peer review or QA/QC checks (self-check, or for junior staff)Collaborate with architects, MEP, geotechnical, civil, and other disciplines to integrate structural design requirementsAssist or lead project scope definition, scheduling, resource planning, and budgetingAct as client technical liaison, attend client meetings, present design decisionsCoordinate internal engineering resources, delegate tasks, and mentor less experienced engineersParticipate in proposals, estimates, technical write-ups, and business developmentTrack and report progress, anticipate risks, and develop mitigation strategiesAct as Engineer of Record (EOR) for structural filingsQualificationsRequiredProfessional Engineer (PE) license in New York (required)Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's degree strongly preferred)5-10+ years of proven experience in structural engineering design, calculations, drawings, and analysis in a consulting/design office environmentExperience using RISA, RAM, or similar design/analysis softwareWillingness to travel to job sites as neededPreferredExperience with Revit or similar modeling softwareExperience with NYC specific projects and understanding of local requirementsCertifications in QEWI, QPSI and QRWI are highly desirableAdvanced proficiency with structural analysis and design softwareStrong technical writing skills for reports, memos, and calculationsExcellent verbal and written communication abilities with cross-disciplinary collaboration skillsSelf-driven, detail-oriented, organized approach with ability to manage multiple tasks under deadlinesWhy You'll Love StratusA team-oriented environment that values transparency, creativity, and shared successMeaningful career paths, leadership opportunities, and space to specializeLearning & Development – Education and Professional LicensingWe believe flexible, hybrid work supports the balance and well-being our team deservesExcellent Health Care Programs – Medical, Dental, and Vision InsuranceCompany-paid Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term DisabilityVoluntary Life Insurance options for employees, spouses, and dependents401k Retirement Plan with employer matchPaid Holidays & Competitive PTO plans
